Under the Better Access to Mental Health Care scheme, medicare rebates are available for up to ten individual psychology sessions per calendar year.
In order to access this scheme, you will need a valid Mental Health Care Plan from a GP or psychiatrist. If you are unsure how to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan, please contact us for assistance.
Health care and concession card holders with a Mental Health Care Plan are able to be bulk billed, meaning that there is no out-of-pocket cost.
If you do not have a health care or concession card, there is an out-of-pocket cost of $25.50 after the medicare rebate. In this case, you will need to pay the $150 fee at the time of your appointment. We will lodge your medicare rebate electronically. As long as Medicare have your bank details, the rebate should be processed within 1-2 days.
Fact Sheet for Patients: Better Access to Mental Health Care
If you do not have a Mental Health Care Plan you will need to cover the cost of sessions yourself. However, many private health insurance funds now offer rebates for clinical psychology sessions.
In this case, a standard 50 minute session costs $150.
Payment may be made by cash, credit card, or EFTPOS at the time of the appointment.
Due to the number of people waiting for an appointment, it is very important to provide adequate notice if you are not able to attend your appointment so that it can be offered to someone else.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Sessions cancelled after 5pm on the day before the appointment will attract a fee.
